Prism vs Northbeam

Prism vs Northbeam for Shopify brands: pricing, attribution models, view-through, and when Northbeam's enterprise measurement is worth the cost.

Sailesh B · Updated · Northbeam prices checked

Prism is a Northbeam alternative for Shopify brands that spend less than six figures a month on ads. Northbeam's Starter plan is listed at $1,500, with pricing based on your pageviews and higher plans on annual contracts. Prism starts at $29 a month for up to 1,000 orders, billed month to month, with a 14-day free trial.

Northbeam is a serious measurement platform for large brands. It has view-through attribution, machine-learning models, media mix modelling and dedicated strategists. If you spend hundreds of thousands a month on ads, those are worth paying for. Below that, most stores need a clear answer to "which channels brought in my orders" more than they need an enterprise stack, and that's what Prism is for.

What Northbeam costs

Northbeam's pricing page lists four plans and says price is based on data volume, measured in pageviews, while your ad spend decides which plan you qualify for:

PlanPriceForContract
Starter$1,500Ad spend under $1.5M a year, Shopify onlyMonth to month, usage-based
Professional$3,500/moAd spend up to $500k a monthAnnual (billed yearly or half-yearly)
EnterpriseCustomAd spend over $500k a monthAnnual
GrowthCustomAd spend under $200k a month, through a partner agencyNot stated

Every plan says "contact us for a quote", and the page doesn't mention a free trial. It also doesn't say whether Starter's $1,500 is per month. Because the price follows pageviews, we can't give an exact figure for a given order volume.

Prism is priced by orders: $29 a month up to 1,000 orders, $99 up to 5,000 and $199 up to 10,000. Pricing section.

Prism and Northbeam, feature by feature.

Where Northbeam is better

  • View-through attribution. Northbeam can credit ads people saw but didn't click, with a modelled option and a newer deterministic one (docs). Prism only credits visits to your store.
  • More measurement methods. Media mix modelling and incrementality testing are available as add-ons.
  • Feeding attribution back to the ad platforms. Apex shares Northbeam's attribution with Meta and AppLovin so their algorithms can learn from it. Google and TikTok aren't supported yet, and the Meta optimisation layer is in beta (docs).
  • Wider coverage. Pinterest, Snapchat and Amazon, plus non-Shopify stores on the Professional plan and up.
  • People. Higher plans come with a dedicated media strategist.

Where Prism is better

  • Price. Prism is $29 a month up to 1,000 orders. Northbeam's listed plans start at $1,500.
  • You can try it first. A 14-day free trial, and you set it up yourself from the Shopify App Store.
  • A profit view. Prism also has a store P&L: you enter product costs, shipping and fees, and ad spend comes in from your connected accounts. It's a separate feature from attribution, which decides which channel earned an order and never changes your total profit.
  • Server-side sending to both Meta and Google. Prism sends sales the browser pixel missed back to Meta and Google Ads, and on Google it also lowers a conversion's value after a refund or cancellation.
  • Cash on delivery counted properly. Pending COD orders count until they're cancelled, so return-to-origin orders drop out.
  • One-click checkouts. Attribution keeps working on GoKwik checkouts.

Which should you pick?

  • Spending over $200k a month on ads, with a team to act on MMM and incrementality results: Northbeam.
  • You rely on view-through credit, for example heavy YouTube or awareness spend: Northbeam.
  • Under about $100k a month in ad spend, mostly Meta and Google: Prism. You'll get order-level multi-touch attribution for a fraction of the cost.
  • Cash on delivery or one-click checkouts in India and Southeast Asia: Prism.
  • Not on Shopify: Northbeam, from its Professional plan. Prism is Shopify-only.

Switching from Northbeam

Install Prism from the Shopify App Store and connect your ad accounts. Prism imports your past orders and ad spend, and starts recording visitor journeys from the day you install, so run both side by side for a few weeks before you cancel. Apex and Prism's Conversion Recovery do different jobs. Apex shares Northbeam's attribution with Meta; Conversion Recovery sends Meta and Google the purchases their pixels missed. If your Meta campaigns optimise on Apex data, plan for that change when you cancel.

Questions
